Days Lock, Abingdon – Resurfacing Works
Environment Agency – working with OCL Regeneration
March 2023
Work scope was to plane off existing access road and excavate out unmetalled car park to receive 100mm Foambase and 30mm AC10 on approach to campsite.
Restrictions onsite were a bridge with a 3t weight limit and working within a SSSI over the River Thames under watching brief from the Environment Agency.
Full RAMS were supplied from Mays Technical and approved by the Environment Agency for work within the SSSI and over the River Thames.
Works were carried out using our tracked skidsteer planers and loaders, all materials were tracked in and out using 3 in 1 buckets and sweeper attachments. Excavation was undertaken using our Engcon equipped 2.5t excavator which was operating on bio-oil to allow it to safely operate within the SSSI.
All material was removed from site utilizing our Mays Technical tippers, a loading platform was created outside of the SSSI and the materials hauled to waste transfer stations under our Waste Carriers License.
Return loads delivered OCL Foambase to the lay down area which was then tracked in utilizing the skidsteers and laid by our inhouse hand lay gangs. In accordance with the specification for material placement K140 tack coat was applied to the rolled surface utilizing our hand-held tack coat sprayers.
The works were programmed to allow a 2-day curing period from Friday placement to Monday, when the AC10 was supplied and laid. The asphalt was collected from Heathrow in our 32 ton insulated asphalt lorry and chuted into our adapted skidsteer bucket allowing us to chute the material into wheel barrows with minimal wastage. The asphalt was hand laid by two of our hand lay gangs.
