For this project near North Tudington in Dereham, we were contracted by a long-standing customer to handle all environmental enabling works. The main objectives were to create a backwater connection to the River Tud and to excavate a series of ponds with varying depths and topographies to support diverse wildlife and plant life.
The primary challenge was the extremely soft peat ground, which is highly unstable and prone to shifting.
Solutions:
We relied on our extensive experience with soft ground and used GPS and ENCON-equipped excavators to work in single-track lines. This allowed us to create natural shapes and varied pond depths to foster different species of wildlife and plant life. We successfully connected the backwater to the River Tud, enriching the local ecosystem.

The client was extremely satisfied with the results. Despite the peat ground shifting by up to 100 millimeters, we maintained a tight tolerance of plus or minus 35 millimeters. This precision and the creation of varied habitats led to very positive feedback from all partys.
